Greypony
Have You Ever Heard of a Content Buffer?
Which file is allowed to leave the house. Greypony splits the clear master from the version that posts.
Not "did you watermark it." Not "did you pick a platform."
The question was: which file is allowed to leave the house.
You edit it. Instagram even has an app called Edits — a buffer application in plain sight. That is the idea. A place between the clear original and the public post. This article is about parents, because parents in the digital age already have strict rules for what they share and with whom. Their kids are in the photos. That is not a false concern. It is, truthfully, why we made Greypony.
Parents don't usually need a philosophy of privacy — until the digital age. You could close your blinds and be done. Privacy achieved. How do you do that when sensors and cameras are everywhere?
Recent calls to keep fifteen-year-olds off social media (this house agrees) sit next to platforms with a sixteen age minimum, or a hard wall between children and adults. Not only for nefarious reasons. Social networks are good for sixteen-year-olds when they work. It is false to say Facebook or Instagram never brought communities together. The sheer irony that Facebook is still relevant — and why — proves community often finds a way to connect, even on a platform most people claim they don't want to be on.
We need a fork in the road. One version gets posted. One version stays private. Most tools smash those jobs together and call it a vault. Then the clear original rides the same rails as the shareable clip — until someone screenshots the wrong thing, or a link outlives the moment, or you can't remember which copy was safe, and the photo is in the wrong hands.
Greypony shipped the fork.
What we built
Three things. All live in the web product at greypony.company.
Irreversible (parent) protect. When you apply it, redaction is burned into the file — pixelate, blur, cover, faces, regions, EXIF scrub, mute on video if you need it. The clear file is removed from the shareable vault. What leaves on a share link is the protected version. Not a toggle you can undo later and pretend nothing happened.
Family archive. Optional, on purpose. When you run irreversible protect, you can save a clear copy to a private Family archive first. That archive never appears on share links, never shows up in Planner, never lands on a public page. Download requires your signed-in session. It is a private master for you — not another feed.
Parent mode. A Settings default that opens Protect with irreversible suggested, so the family workflow isn't a scavenger hunt every time you edit.
There's also a Safe to post checklist on the asset — a pre-share ritual with your own attestations and links to platform rules. Guidance, not theater that claims we control Instagram for you.
Apple Albums vs the buffer
Apple Albums are built to share photos with people you already trust. Greypony is built for the moment you share with the internet.
In Shared Albums / Family Sharing, the clear photo is usually the thing in the album. Everyone invited can see it. That's great for grandparents. It's the wrong model for "I'm about to post this."
Greypony splits the jobs. Irreversible protect burns redaction into the version that leaves. Family archive keeps the clear master private — signed-in only, never on a share link, never in Planner. Watermark + link you control + views/downloads — not another shared library.
Apple helps the family see the photo. Greypony helps you post a protected version without letting the clear original ride the same rails.
What this is not
It is not a promise that no future AI will ever reconstruct a face from a pixelated still. The product says that in the UI for a reason. Strong redaction. Honest limits. If the face appears someplace else, the face can be recreated — outside of Greypony's controls.
It is not Blackhorse Palomino. Palomino signs how you connect to the network. Greypony protects what you share. Sister companies. Separate jobs.
It is not "data sovereignty" cosplay. Greypony is media control: watermark, protect, share on a link you control, see views and downloads. Family archive is the clear master that stays off those links. That is the whole point. Most companies don't even do watermarks.
Closing
A content buffer is not a vibe. It is the gap between the clear file and the public one — the edit room before the post, the fork before the feed.
Closing the blinds used to be enough. Online, the blinds are a decision about which file is allowed to leave the house.
Share the protected version. Keep the clear one somewhere a link can never reach.
That is the parent rule. Greypony is the software that finally matches it.
